What have I been up to?

During last weeks I've been busy with the personal projects not related to Werde. Each Sunday afternoon I teach drumming and dancing for the kids at Bata ng Calabnugan. Girls are really enthusiastic and learn quickly! At Casa Esperanza shelter I conduct a workshop for the girls every Saturday and starting from August every other Saturday. Most of these girls are victims of sexual abuse. In workshop we focus on body awareness, dancing and relaxation techniques. I also hold a short four weeks workshop for the boys attending Dumaguete Cathedral's feeding program. Boys come to Cathedral to shower, do the laundry, eat and study. They have a volunteer teacher two days  a week and once a week they now practice dancing with me.  Boys are going to perform in an opening of a new centre, 18th August!

I was at Bata ng Calabnugan at the right time - pizza time! Just imagine 15 girls making pizza. It means lots of happy faces and lots of laughter.

What comes to Werde, we are now approaching important deadlines here and could be that in August or September we'll have a social worker for the after care project (for Dumaguete youth home for minors in conflict with law) which also means more work for me. We have a few other projects going on as well and will tell you more once there is more to tell.

Werde has also received a few reports from our latest Adopt a project batch and now receiving new applications. Some activities are still to be reported, for example supplies for Lakbay Aral. Lakbay Aral is an outing for 5th and 6th grade pupils from hinterlands outside Dumaguete. For these kids, Lakbay Aral is a chance to see what life is like in a city. I will be with the Lakbay Aral group next Monday (in total it is a group of 100 people) so I will probably end up eating at Jollibee's and Mc Donalds THREE times during the day. For some strange reason people here think that fast food is a good embodiment of city life.
